The World Shipping Council (WSC) is launching an industry-first initiative aimed at identifying misdeclared and undeclared dangerous goods to prevent ship fires, protect crews, vessels, customer cargo, and the marine environment. This was reported by Seafarers Journal , citing the WSC press service. WSC President and CEO Joe Kramek said the industry has seen too many tragic incidents where misdeclared cargo has led to catastrophic fires, including fatal ones. According to the Allianz Safety and Shipping Review 2025, the number of ship fires has reached its highest level in the last ten years, with misdeclared dangerous goods becoming the leading cause of ship fires, accounting for more than a quarter of all cargo-related incidents.
